Callenish Circle, the story continues...

The roots of Callenish Circle go back to the autumn of 1992 when vocalist (and only original bandmember) Patrick Savelkoul and (ex)guitarplayer Jos Evers decided to form a Death Metal-band, with which they star ted playing covers from their favourite acts like Death, Pestilence and Bolt Thrower.

Some line-up changes followed and it wasn't until early 1994 when the first serious line-up was formed. From that line-up Ronny Tyssen (guitars), Gavin Harte (drums) and Patrick Savelkoul (vocals) still form today's core of the band.

The band immediately started writing own material and in 1995 they finally entered the famous Beaufort Recording Studio where they recorded their legendary "Lovelorn-demo". The demo was celebrated by the (underground)scene all over the world and it quickly sold out with 1.000 copies. The Lovelorn-demo is nowadays a much-sought collector's item.

With the success of the Lovelorn-demo also several record-companies started showing interest in the band and early 1996 the band signed up with the young Dutch metal-label Hammerheart Records. The band entered the Beaufort-studio again where they recorded their debut-album "Drift of Empathy" with producer Han Swagerman sr. (known for his work with The Gathering on their legendary "Always"-album). The album also received great reviews worldwide but due to un-experience of both label and band they couldn't make the big step they hoped for. The album is sold out now with 2.000 copies but it will be re-released on Painkiller Records in September, including the Lovelorn-demo as bonus.

To close the gap to the 2nd full-length album the band entered the Beaufort-studio once again where they recorded the "Escape" mcd, released on mini-label Polar Bear R ecords (R.I.P.) in 1998. The response towards the mcd was excellent again and although the release lacked a descent distribution-network 3.000 copies were sold so far.

Then the band decided to switch studios as their sound developed into a more aggressive and powerful direction. So they recorded their 2nd album "Graceful... yet Forbidding" in Franky's Recording Kitchen with God Dethroned-mastermind Henri Sattler. The album was mixed by producer Bertus Westerhuis, known for his work with bands like God Dethroned, Severe Torture & Altar.

The band immediately gained interest from not less than 8 record-companies and eventually the band signed a deal for 2 albums with DSFA Records (a.o. Within Temptation, Trail of Tears and Orphanage). Finally a bright fu ture was waiting for the band as DSFA Records was known for the massive promotion and support of their bands. But how different things turned out eventually. DSFA Records got into serious financial problems and the album could only be released officially i n the Benelux-countries. Therefore the band claimed back the legal rights of the album and started searching for a new label to release Graceful... yet Forbidding in the rest of the world as well. For Europe the band closed a license-deal with the Norwegi an label EdgeRunner Records. EdgeRunner Records has in the meantime released "Graceful... yet Forbidding" in the rest of Europe with the Escape-mcd as bonus. The reviews are totally overwhelming so far, check out the REVIEW-section on the website (http://www.callenish-circle.com).

Although the band again faced a lot misfortune with the troubles on DSFA Records they are back on track again. They recently recorded their 3rd album at Germany-based Stage One Studio with producer Andy Classen (former guitarist of German cult-band Holy Moses and prod ucer of bands like Rotting Christ, Krisiun, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Rykers). Release for the new album is planned for late 2001 - beginning 2002 and after the release Callenish Circle will hopefully be playing a European support-tour.
